The story revolves around a young man named “Bassanio” who seeks to marry the beautiful “Portia,” but lacks the money to do so. He asks “Shylock,” a Jewish merchant in Venice, for a loan in exchange for a strange bond. The play weaves together love, justice, and the struggle between good and evil.

The story begins in Venice, where “Bassanio” faces the problem of not having enough money to marry “Portia,” who has agreed to marry him. However, Portia’s father has left her a strange test for choosing a husband, and she must pick the man who succeeds in choosing between three boxes containing keys. Bassanio turns to “Shylock,” a Jewish merchant known for his cruelty, to get a loan. Shylock agrees to lend the money with the condition that if Bassanio cannot repay the loan on time, Shylock has the right to take “a pound of flesh” from him.
